Chapter 1

Six months later.
The air was warm and sweet. The rose bush we planted had grown tall and full, covered in bright red flowers.
I stood in the garden with my uncle. We watched the workers finishing the new children’s clinic we’d built in Dad’s name. It was free for families who couldn’t afford care.
“Your father always wanted to do this,” my uncle said. “He just never had the chance.”
“Now he does,” I said.
We walked back to the house. Inside, it was warm and bright. No more cold silence.
My cousins had come to stay for the weekend. The housekeeper was laughing in the kitchen. My aunt was setting the table.
I looked around at all of them. People who had been scared, pushed away, or hurt—but who had stayed true.
I thought about how close I’d come to losing everything. To letting Elena bury the truth along with Dad.
But I’d listened to my gut. I’d fought. And I’d found the family he’d left behind.
Later, when everyone was sitting around the big dinner table, I raised my glass.
“To Dad,” I said. “To the truth. And to us—together.”
Everyone raised their glasses and smiled.
For the first time in a long time, I felt completely safe. Completely loved.

I knew Dad was watching. And I knew he was smiling.
The lies were gone. The secrets were buried. And our story—our real family story—was just beginning.
