Chapter 5

I arrived at the office early. The lobby was packed with staff whispering and staring at their phones.

When I walked in, they fell quiet.

Then someone clapped. Then another. Soon the whole room was cheering.

I nodded, touched, and headed straight for the boardroom.

My lawyer was already there. Elias arrived five minutes later, nervous but steady.

The board members sat around the long table, faces serious.

“Let’s start,” the chair said. “We need clarity on who actually founded this company.”

I laid out the documents. I showed them the dates, the sketches, the receipts from Elias’s old laptop.

Elias spoke up. “I didn’t stay because I was scared. But I helped build the vision. Lila made it real.”

One director leaned forward. “If this is true, Daniel has been misrepresenting the company’s history for years.”

“It’s true,” I said. “And he used that lie to take credit, take control, and steal from us all.”

We went through every detail. For three hours.

By the end, the board chair looked at Elias. “We owe you an apology. And a place here, if you want it.”

Elias exhaled. “I want to help finish what we started.”

We voted unanimously to name Elias as Chief Strategy Officer. He would work directly with me.

When we walked out, the staff cheered again.

But the relief didn’t last long.

My phone buzzed. A message from the district attorney’s office.

“Daniel is alleging the original documents are forged. He’s also claiming you manipulated him into signing loans.”

I looked at Elias. “He’s not going down without a fight.”

“Then we fight,” Elias said. “Together.”

That afternoon, we went to the courthouse to review the evidence.

Daniel sat in the waiting room in handcuffs. When he saw us, he laughed.

“Bring your brother to save you?” he jeered. “Cute. But no one believes liars.”

I stopped. “We have receipts. Witnesses. People who heard you admit you didn’t start anything.”

His smile faded. “You think you win just because you caught me stealing?”

“I win because I built this,” I said. “And you only borrowed it.”

We walked past him. He shouted after us, but I didn’t look back.

Outside, the sun broke through the clouds.

For the first time, I didn’t feel like I was fighting alone.
