Chapter 6

Chapter 6

The contractions came every six minutes.

I breathed through them.

Daniel counted.

His voice steady.

Marcus waited outside the room.

The doctor checked the monitor.

"You're progressing, Lena. We may not stop this."

I nodded.

My son was coming.

Early but ready.

Daniel kissed my knuckles.

"I'm right here."

A nurse brought in the delivery team.

Helen's name came up on the blocked caller list.

Daniel ignored it.

Sarah texted him anyway.

He showed me the message.

"Mom is outside the hospital. Let her in. Family should be together."

He deleted it.

The pain built.

I focused on my son.

His future.

The company that would be his one day.

Free from Helen's shadow.

The doctor said push.

I pushed.

Daniel encouraged me.

Hours blurred.

Then the cry.

Our son.

Small but strong.

They placed him on my chest.

Skin to skin.

His tiny hand curled around my finger.

Tears streamed down my face.

Daniel cried too.

"He's perfect."

We named him Ethan.

Ethan Langford Rivera.

The nurse took him for checks.

Daniel held me.

"I'm so sorry I doubted you."

I touched his face.

"We're here now."

Marcus knocked softly.

He stepped in.

"Congratulations. And the court just granted full temporary custody to you both. Helen's motion denied."

Relief washed over me.

But Ethan cried in the nursery.

The nurse brought him back.

I fed him.

Daniel watched, eyes soft.

The door opened.

A security guard.

"Ms. Rivera, there's a woman outside claiming grandmother rights."

Helen.

Daniel stood.

"I'll handle it."

He left the room.

I held Ethan tighter.

Marcus stayed.

"Company papers can wait. But the board wants a statement."

I shook my head.

"Not today."

Daniel returned.

Face tight.

"Helen tried to force her way in. Security has her now. Police are coming."

I nodded.

Ethan latched on.

Safe.

Loved.

The police took Helen away again.

Restraining order enforced.

Sarah and Mark waited in the lobby.

Daniel went to talk to them.

He came back alone.

"They left. Sarah is still with Mom. Mark... he said he's done choosing sides."

Progress.

Small.

Ethan slept on my chest.

His breathing even.

Daniel sat beside us.

"I want to fix the family. But not at your expense."

I smiled.

"We'll see who wants to be fixed."

The next day we went home to the condo.

Private nurse.

Security doubled.

Ethan's crib was ready.

I rocked him.

Daniel made dinner.

Normal things.

But the phone never stopped.

Family messages.

Some angry.

Some confused.

One from an aunt.

"We didn't know about the first wife. We're sorry."

Daniel read it.

Hope in his eyes.

Marcus brought papers.

Langford board wanted me to appear.

Virtually.

I agreed.

With Ethan in my arms.

The screen filled with faces.

Helen was not there.

Suspended.

The chairman congratulated me on the birth.

Then asked about direction.

I spoke calmly.

"Stability. Transparency. No more family control games."

They voted.

My vision passed.

Daniel watched from the side.

Pride mixed with pain.

After the call he held Ethan.

Our son cooed.

Daniel looked at me.

"I see it now. You did this for him."

I nodded.

"For all of us."

That night Ethan woke crying.

I comforted him.

Daniel helped.

We were a team.

But Sarah posted again.

A new story.

Lena stole the company.

Lena is keeping the baby from loving grandparents.

Comments poured in.

Some supported me.

Some attacked.

Daniel read them.

His jaw set.

He posted his own response.

Public.

For the first time.

"The truth is coming out. My mother crossed lines. My wife protected our son. Stand with us or step aside."

The family exploded.

Texts flooded.

Mark called.

"I want to meet the baby."

We agreed.

Neutral place.

The meeting was tense.

Mark held Ethan carefully.

He apologized.

Sarah refused to come.

Helen was fighting the suspension.

Legal battles.

Business battles.

Custody threats still lingered.

But Ethan slept through it all.

Safe in my arms.

Marcus updated the shares.

Sixty-eight percent.

Control complete.

Helen would feel it soon.

Daniel and I lay in bed that night.

Ethan between us in his bassinet.

Daniel whispered.

"I love you. Both of you."

I believed him.

But the next morning a process server came.

New papers.

Helen claiming emotional distress.

Trying to force visitation.

Daniel ripped them up again.

But the court date was set.

We had to fight.

Ethan fussed.

I fed him.

Calm on the outside.

Inside, the battle raged.

Family divided.

Company mine.

Son safe.

Helen desperate.

The next twist came from Mark.

He called.

"Mom has more evidence. Old emails. She's saying you planned this takeover from the start."

Daniel took the call.

Listened.

Then hung up.

He looked at me.

"Is it true?"

I met his eyes.

"I planned to protect what was left of my family's legacy. Yes."

He didn't walk away.

Instead, he held me.

"We'll face it together."

Ethan cooed.

The three of us.

Stronger.

But Helen was planning her next move.

May you like

And the court was waiting.

The drama was far from over.
