Chapter 4: The Truth in the Garden

Ryan had already opened the house door.

People began to follow.

The ceremony dissolved behind them like smoke.

Inside the hallway, Ellie pointed.

Her voice shook.

“Down there…”

The powder room door stood slightly open.

The overturned flower basket still lay near the floor.

White petals scattered like evidence no one had cleaned up fast enough.

Daniel knelt beside it.

Then slowly stood.

He didn’t raise his voice.

He didn’t need to.

“Vanessa,” he said, turning back toward the garden.

She had followed them inside.

Still composed.

Still beautiful.

But now… alone.

“What did you say to my daughter?”

A pause.

Then Vanessa exhaled softly.

“I told her to wait.”

“Wait for what?”

Her eyes flickered once toward the guests watching from behind.

“For us to start our life properly.”

Daniel stared at her.

Something in him went still.

“You locked my daughter in a bathroom,” he said quietly.

Vanessa finally dropped the mask.

Just slightly.

“She was going to ruin everything.”

That sentence hung in the air too long.

Too sharp.

Too honest.

Ellie pressed her face deeper into Daniel’s chest.

And Daniel understood something he didn’t want to.

This wasn’t a mistake.

It was a belief.
