Chapter 9
A few months later, Richard received an unexpected package in the mail.
It was from Elena’s former assistant — a young woman who had worked for her during the marriage. Inside the package was a USB drive and a short note.
“I can’t stay silent anymore. I think you should see this.”
Richard plugged the USB into his laptop.
What he found made his blood run cold.
There were dozens of voice recordings and messages between Elena and her friends. In them, Elena openly admitted that she had never wanted Chloe in her life. She had only married Richard for his money and status. She had even discussed ways to make Chloe “less of a problem” — including sending her to boarding school far away or convincing Richard to give up custody.
But the most shocking part was a conversation Elena had with one of her close friends shortly after the divorce.
“I should have gotten rid of that child a long time ago,” Elena had said. “Richard was always so weak when it came to her. If I had pushed harder, maybe he would have sent her away.”
Richard sat in his study for a long time after listening to the recordings.
He had always known Elena was selfish and cruel.
But hearing her speak so openly about wanting to get rid of his daughter made him feel physically sick.
He immediately sent the recordings to his lawyer.
A few weeks later, Elena’s visitation rights were completely revoked. The court also ordered her to stay away from Chloe permanently.
Richard never told Chloe about the recordings.
