Chapter 10

Two years later, Richard and Chloe were living a much quieter, happier life.

They had moved to a smaller house closer to the city. Chloe was now nine years old and doing well in school. She had made new friends and even joined the art club. Her drawings now covered the walls of their home — bright, colorful, and full of life.

Richard had stepped back from some of his business responsibilities to spend more time with his daughter. He no longer traveled as much. Instead, he made sure he was home for dinner almost every night.

One sunny Saturday afternoon, Chloe came running into the living room holding a new drawing.

“Dad! Look what I made!”

Richard put down his book and smiled.

“Show me.”

Chloe held up the paper proudly.

This time, the drawing showed only two figures.

One was a tall man with a kind smile.

The other was a little girl with pigtails, holding his hand.

Above them, in big, colorful letters, Chloe had written:

“My Dad & Me”

Richard felt his eyes sting with emotion.

He pulled Chloe into a hug and held her tightly.

“It’s perfect,” he whispered.

Chloe hugged him back.

“I didn’t draw anyone else,” she said. “Because it’s just us now. And that’s okay.”

Richard smiled against her hair.

“Yes,” he said softly. “It’s more than okay. It’s everything.”

As they sat together on the couch, looking at Chloe’s drawing, Richard realized something important.

He had lost a marriage.

He had lost people he once considered family.

But he had gained something far more precious.

A real relationship with his daughter.

A home filled with love instead of fear.

And the peace of knowing that he had finally done the right thing.

The road had been painful.

But they had made it through.

And now, they were exactly where they were meant to be.

Together.
