Chapter 8

Over the next six weeks, the legal and public battle reached its peak.
Helen and Daniel threw every accusation they could think of at us.
They claimed Father had ties to organized crime.
They said I was an unfit mother because of the stress of the case.
They even tried to say Lila was not Daniel’s child, demanding a DNA test.
We agreed to the test immediately.
The results came back clear — he was the biological father.
But that didn’t stop them.
They just said it had been faked.
It was exhausting.
But with every claim, we released a counter-document.
Every time they said I was unstable, we released letters from my doctors and therapists saying I was mentally strong and stable.
Every time they accused Father of corruption, we released financial records showing every transaction was legal and transparent.
Slowly, the public began to see the pattern.
Helen’s accusations were loud, but they never had proof.
Our responses were quiet, but backed by paper and facts.
Meanwhile, our shareholding in Langford Group reached 48%.
We were just 3% away from a controlling majority.
Father’s strategy was clear — we would buy those last shares, but we would do it at the exact moment when Helen’s own actions destroyed her remaining credibility.
That moment arrived when Carter finally testified in court.
The hearing was open to the public and the press.
The courtroom was packed.
Carter stood under oath and told his story.
He explained how Helen had ordered him to create false invoices, hide losses, and transfer company funds into personal accounts.
He showed emails, spreadsheets, and bank records that tracked every dollar.
As he spoke, Helen’s face turned from confident to pale, then to furious.
Daniel looked like he wanted to run out of the room.
When Carter finished, the judge asked if there was any response.
Helen’s lawyer tried to attack his character, calling him a disgruntled employee.
But then, our legal team presented something else — copies of the very same documents that had been sent to Helen’s own auditor, who had tried to resign six months earlier.
The auditor was called to testify next.
He confirmed everything Carter had said.
By the end of the day, the atmosphere in the courtroom had shifted completely.
The public that had once doubted us now looked at Helen and Daniel with suspicion.
Outside the court, reporters crowded around me.
I stood with Lila in my arms, protected by security.
“Mrs. Elena,” one reporter called out. “Do you believe this is the turning point?”
I looked at the cameras.
“I believe the truth always comes out eventually,” I said. “This was never about winning a fight. It was about protecting my daughter and making sure that greed and cruelty do not go unpunished.”
That evening, the stock price of Langford Group dropped sharply.
Investors began to panic.
Small shareholders started calling us, wanting to sell their shares before the price fell further.
We bought every single one.
By midnight, we held 51% of the company.
We had taken control.
But as I sat in the office, looking at the final share certificate, I received one last message from Helen.
It was not a threat this time.
It was a warning.
“You have the company now, Elena. But you have no idea what you have unleashed. Some secrets are buried for a reason. Dig too deep, and you might find something you never wanted to see.”
May you like
I stared at the words.
What more could there be?
