I was six months pregnant when I came home early and found my husband in our bed with another woman. I thought the worst part was seeing them together… until they both turned on me.
Chapter 1

I was six months pregnant when my husband slammed me into the kitchen wall hard enough to crack the plaster. I thought the worst part was the blood in my mouth… until I heard my mother-in-law’s voice from the hallway.
“Don’t leave marks on the face,” she said calmly. “We still have the baby shower photos next week.”
I stayed on the floor, one hand over my stomach, tasting metal, while my husband wiped his knuckles with a kitchen towel like nothing had happened.
“She needs to learn,” he muttered.
My mother-in-law walked into the kitchen, heels clicking on the tile. She looked down at me the same way she looked at stains on her expensive rugs.
“Get up, Elena. You’re making a scene.”
I didn’t move.
Daniel crouched in front of me, his voice soft and dangerous.
“If you tell anyone, I’ll make sure you never see this baby after it’s born. You know I can.”
I looked past him to the camera I had secretly installed in the smoke detector three weeks earlier.
The little red light was still on.
It had recorded everything.
The slap.
The shove.
The crack of my body hitting the wall.
And my mother-in-law’s cold instruction about the baby shower photos.
Daniel stood up and walked away, laughing with his mother.
I stayed on the cold floor, blood dripping from my lip onto my maternity dress, while the recording continued to capture every word they said next.
“Once the baby is here,” my mother-in-law whispered, “we can finally deal with her properly.”
I slowly reached into my pocket, pulled out my phone, and opened the live feed from the hidden camera.

The screen showed them both standing over me, still talking about how to make me disappear after the birth.
And for the first time, they had no idea I was watching them right back.
