Chapter 3

While Julian believed he was completely in control, I had been quietly building a case against him for nearly two years.

I saved every threatening message and deleted conversation I could recover. I took photos of my injuries whenever he hurt me and stored them in a secure cloud account that only my lawyer had access to. I recorded arguments on my phone when he thought I was too scared to do anything.

But the most damaging evidence came from Julian himself.

He had a habit of talking too much when he thought he had already won. Because he believed I was too weak and too broken to ever fight back, he spoke freely in front of me about his plans.

I recorded everything.

There were voice recordings of him discussing how he and Nora planned to push me out of the company after the divorce. There were text messages where they talked about fighting for full custody of our child so I would have “nothing left to fight with.” And most damning of all, there were conversations where Julian admitted to transferring large sums of company money into hidden accounts with Nora’s help.

I had kept all of it.

When I finally decided to file for divorce, I didn’t go in empty-handed. I went in with enough evidence to completely destroy the perfect image Julian had spent years building.

He thought he had emptied our joint accounts and left me with nothing.

What he didn’t know was that I had already made copies of every important financial document months earlier. I had also quietly spoken with several board members who were disgusted when they discovered the extent of his financial misconduct.

Julian Vance thought he was destroying me.

In reality, he had been walking straight into a trap I had spent two years carefully setting.
