I smiled the day my husband divorced me and married the woman he cheated with.

Chapter 2
The three of us walked into the courthouse together.
People stared. Of course they did. The pregnant wife. The soon-to-be ex-husband. The other woman. It was a scene straight out of a bad movie.
Daniel walked slightly ahead, like he was already moving on with his life. Olivia stayed close to his side, her hand occasionally brushing his arm in a way that was clearly meant to provoke me.
I kept my face calm.
My lawyer, Elena, was waiting near the courtroom doors. She gave me a small, almost imperceptible nod. Everything was in place.
Daniel noticed the exchange.
“What was that?” he asked, lowering his voice.
“Nothing important,” I replied lightly.
But I saw the first flicker of doubt cross his face.
We stopped outside the heavy wooden doors of the courtroom. Daniel turned to me one last time.
“Look, Emma,” he said, trying to sound reasonable. “Let’s keep this civil. We both know this marriage is over. There’s no need to drag things out or make it ugly.”
I looked at him.
Civil.
After everything he had done.
After he had cheated on me while I was pregnant.
After he had made plans behind my back.
After he had chosen another woman over his own child.
I almost felt sorry for him.
Almost.
“I agree,” I said calmly. “There’s no need to make this uglier than it already is.”
Olivia smiled like she had already won.
Daniel looked relieved. He probably thought I was going to be reasonable. That I would sign the papers, take whatever small settlement he offered, and disappear quietly with my baby.
He had no idea.
The bailiff opened the doors.
“Court is now in session.”
Daniel and Olivia walked in first, still holding hands. I followed behind them, one hand resting on my belly.
As I stepped into the courtroom, I felt a strange sense of peace.
This wasn’t the end.

This was the beginning of everything they had tried to take from me.
And today, I was going to take it all back.
