Chapter 8

Thirty days later, we were back in court.

This time, the outcome was very different.

The judge had reviewed all the evidence — the recordings, the financial documents, the messages, and the witness statements from the wedding. Daniel’s lawyer tried to argue, but it was clear the judge had already made up her mind.

In the end, she ruled in my favor on almost every point.

I was granted full legal and physical custody of the baby, with Daniel receiving only supervised visitation after the child was born. All marital assets were to be divided fairly, with a significant portion awarded to me as compensation for the financial misconduct and emotional distress.

Most importantly, the judge issued a permanent restraining order against both Daniel and Olivia, preventing them from contacting me or the child without court approval.

When the hearing ended, Daniel sat in his chair like a man who had lost everything.

Olivia wasn’t even there. She had stopped showing up after the last hearing.

I stood up and placed both hands on my belly. The baby kicked gently, as if they knew everything was finally going to be okay.

Elena turned to me with a small smile.

“It’s over,” she said. “You won.”

I shook my head.

“No,” I replied. “We protected what mattered. That’s not winning. That’s surviving.”

She nodded in understanding.

As I walked out of the courtroom for the last time, I felt lighter than I had in months.

The rain had stopped. Sunlight was breaking through the clouds.

For the first time since I found out about the affair, I allowed myself to believe in the future again.

Not the future I had planned with Daniel.

A new one.

One that belonged only to me and my child.
