Chapter 7

Olivia caught up with me in the hallway.
Her perfect composure was gone. Her face was flushed, and her eyes were wild.
“You bitch,” she hissed, grabbing my arm. “Do you have any idea what you just did? You ruined everything!”
I looked down at her hand on my arm, then back at her face.
“Take your hand off me.”
She didn’t.
“You think you’ve won?” she spat. “Daniel might be weak, but I’m not. I’ll make sure you regret this. I’ll—”
“Olivia.”
Daniel’s voice came from behind her. He sounded exhausted.
She turned to him.
“Daniel, we can still fix this. We just need to—”
“No,” he said, cutting her off. “It’s over.”
Olivia stared at him like he had slapped her.
“What?”
Daniel looked at me instead.
“You recorded me,” he said quietly. “You planned this.”
I met his gaze without flinching.
“I protected myself. And my child. Something you clearly had no intention of doing.”
Olivia’s face twisted with rage.
“This is your fault,” she said to Daniel. “If you had just handled her properly from the beginning—”
Daniel turned on her.
“Shut up, Olivia.”
For the first time, I saw real anger in his eyes — but it wasn’t directed at me.
It was directed at her.
Olivia took a step back, shocked.
Daniel looked at me one last time.
“I hope you’re happy,” he said bitterly.
Then he walked away, leaving Olivia standing there alone.
She turned back to me, her face full of hatred.
“This isn’t over,” she whispered.
I looked at her calmly.
“Yes,” I said. “It is.”

Then I walked past her, one hand resting on my belly, and left the courthouse.
I didn’t look back.
