Chapter 4

I waited for him to come home.

I didn’t yell.

I didn’t cry.

I just sat at the kitchen table with the laptop open in front of me.

When he walked in, he froze.

His face went pale when he saw the screen.

“How long?” I said quietly.

He didn’t answer.

“How long have you been seeing her?”

“Two years,” he mumbled.

“Two years?” I stood up, my voice finally breaking. “You lied to me for two years? You missed your son’s last hours for her?”

“It’s not like that,” he said quickly. “I was going to tell you. I was going to leave her. I just needed time—”

“Time for what? To watch him die while you were with her?”

He stepped forward, reaching for me.

I flinched back.

“Don’t touch me. Ever.”

Mark’s expression changed.

The guilt vanished.

He crossed his arms, jaw set hard.

“You’re being dramatic. It was one night. I didn’t know Leo would get sick.”

“I called you! Eighteen times! You saw my name and chose not to answer!”

“Because I was busy! You always overreact about everything!”

That was when I realized he didn’t feel sorry.

Not really.

He was only sorry he got caught.

He didn’t care that our son was gone.

He only cared about protecting his secret.

“I’m leaving,” I said. “I’m filing for divorce. And I’m telling everyone exactly what kind of man you are.”

Mark’s eyes turned cold.

“You do that, and you’ll regret it. I’ll make sure you get nothing. Not a penny. Not even the house.”

“Keep it,” I said. “I’d rather sleep on the street than stay under the same roof as you.”

I packed a bag.

May you like

I took only what belonged to Leo and me.

When I walked out the door, I didn’t look back.
