Chapter 5

I moved in with my older sister Sarah.
She opened her arms and cried when I told her everything.
“I can’t believe he’d do that,” she said, holding me tight. “He’s always been selfish, but this is evil.”
For the first few days, I couldn’t eat or sleep.
I kept seeing Leo’s face.
I kept hearing Mark’s casual voice.
But slowly, something shifted inside me.
Sadness turned into strength.
I realized I couldn’t just walk away.
Leo deserved justice.
He deserved for everyone to know the truth.
Mark couldn’t get away with this.
I gathered every piece of evidence I had.
The call logs.
The location history.
The photos.
Messages between him and the other woman.
Everything proved he lied.
Everything proved he chose betrayal over his own dying child.
I contacted a lawyer.
She told me I had a very strong case.
But Mark wasn’t going to give up easily.
He started spreading lies about me.
He told family and friends I was mentally unstable.
That I’d neglected Leo.
That I was making everything up to hurt him.
Some people believed him.
Old friends stopped answering my calls.
Mark’s own parents blocked me on social media.
It hurt more than I can say.
But Sarah stood by me.
And so did a few people who knew me well.
“Don’t listen to him,” Sarah said. “We know the truth. And the truth always comes out.”
I nodded.

I knew she was right.
I just had to be brave enough to keep going.
