The Freezing of the Robles Empire

Chapter 2 - The Freeze Begins

By sunrise, the Robles family’s entire financial world had begun to collapse.

Alexander didn’t just freeze their accounts. He had the forensic team dig deeper than Carmen ever expected. Within six hours, three offshore accounts tied to the Robles Legal Group were flagged for suspicious activity. Two of their largest commercial properties in Uptown Dallas received immediate liens. Their primary law firm’s operating license was suddenly under review by the state bar.

I sat in the private hospital suite watching Sofia sleep. The doctor had given her something strong for the pain and swelling. She looked small in the large bed, but the steady rise and fall of her chest reassured me she was safe.

Alexander walked in just after seven, still wearing the same black suit from last night. He looked exhausted but completely in control.

“She’s stable,” I said before he could ask. “Mild concussion. They want to keep her overnight for observation.”

He nodded and sat in the chair across from me. For a moment, neither of us spoke.

Then he said, “Carmen tried to move five million through a shell company in the Caymans at 3:17 this morning. We caught it.”

I looked at him. “You’re not just freezing them. You’re destroying them.”

Alexander met my eyes. “She put her hands on our daughter. There is no other option.”

Our daughter. He still said it like that. Even after everything.

I looked back at Sofia. “She’s going to ask questions when she wakes up. About why her father suddenly appeared. About why her step-grandmother tried to hurt her.”

“I’ll answer whatever she needs to hear,” Alexander said. “But right now, the priority is making sure Carmen and Javier have nothing left to fight with.”

My phone vibrated. A message from our private investigator.

Carmen just tried to book a private flight to Mexico City. We blocked it.

I showed Alexander the message.

He didn’t smile, but something cold and satisfied passed through his eyes.

“They’re starting to understand,” he said quietly. “By tonight, they’ll understand completely.”

I leaned back in the chair and watched my daughter sleep.

For years I had tried to protect Sofia from this world. From the power plays, the betrayals, the cold calculations.

But maybe I had been wrong.

Maybe the only way to truly protect her was to remind everyone exactly who her parents were.
