Chapter 6 - The Offshore Labyrinth

The next three days were a blur of legal filings, frozen accounts, and quiet threats.

Alexander’s team worked around the clock dismantling the Robles empire piece by piece. Every time Carmen tried to move money, it was already gone. Every time Javier tried to call in old favors, the doors were already closed.

But Carmen still had one card left.

Marcus Hale.

He was the one feeding her information and helping her hide what little money she had left. He was also the one who had arranged the private flight she almost took to Mexico.

Alexander decided it was time to cut the head off the snake.

On the fourth night, he came to the new safe house we had moved Sofia into and placed a single folder on the table in front of me.

“Marcus Hale’s real name is Marcus Delgado,” he said. “He’s wanted in three countries for fraud and money laundering. If we hand him over to the right people, Carmen loses her last ally.”

I opened the folder. Inside were photographs, bank records, and flight logs.

“You’ve been busy,” I said.

“I don’t like loose ends,” Alexander replied. “Especially when they threaten my family.”

He paused, then added more softly, “Our family.”

I looked up at him.

For years I had kept Sofia away from Alexander’s world. I told myself it was to protect her. But maybe I had also been protecting myself from remembering what it felt like to stand beside him when we were unstoppable.

Now, watching him methodically destroy everyone who had hurt our daughter, I realized something.

We had never really stopped being a team.

We had just forgotten how to fight on the same side.
