Chapter 9 - The Final Transfer

On the seventh day, everything came crashing down for Carmen and Marcus.
Alexander’s team, working with federal agents, raided three properties simultaneously. They found Marcus trying to destroy documents in a warehouse outside the city. Carmen was arrested at a private airfield attempting to board a plane to Panama with a forged passport.
By noon, every major news outlet was running the story: “Dallas Socialite and Attorney Arrested in Multi-Million Dollar Fraud and Assault Scheme.”
Alexander and I watched the coverage from the safe house living room.
Sofia sat between us on the couch, eating cereal and looking more relaxed than she had in days.
When Carmen’s mugshot appeared on screen, Sofia didn’t flinch.
“She looks smaller now,” she said quietly.
Alexander looked at our daughter.
“She is smaller now,” he said. “Because she has nothing left.”
That evening, the final transfer happened.
Every remaining asset tied to the Robles family was moved into a trust controlled solely by Sofia. The condo she loved, the accounts Carmen had tried to steal, even the offshore holdings Marcus had helped hide — all of it now belonged to our daughter.
Alexander signed the last document and slid it across the table to me.
“It’s done,” he said.

I looked at Sofia, who was drawing in her notebook again, the bruise on her cheek finally starting to fade.
“Yes,” I said. “It is.”
