Chapter 7 - Javier’s Breaking Point

Javier cracked first.
On the fifth day, he showed up at the safe house alone. No lawyers. No mother. Just him, looking like he hadn’t slept in days.
Alexander let him in but didn’t offer him a seat.
Javier stood in the middle of the living room, hands shaking.
“I didn’t know she was going to hit Sofia,” he said. “I swear. I thought we were just pushing paperwork. Mom said it was the only way to save the firm.”
Alexander didn’t speak.
Javier swallowed hard. “She’s not going to stop. Even if you take everything, she’ll keep coming. She’s already talking about hiring someone to… make problems go away.”
My blood ran cold.
Alexander’s voice was dangerously calm. “Who?”
“I don’t know. She didn’t tell me. But she’s scared, and when she’s scared she gets stupid.”
Alexander studied him for a long moment.
Then he said, “You have one chance to walk away clean, Javier. Tell us everything you know about Marcus and your mother’s plans. In return, I won’t destroy what’s left of your name.”
Javier looked at me, then back at Alexander.
He nodded.

For the next two hours, he talked.
By the time he left, we had everything we needed to end this once and for all.
