Chapter 4 - Alexander Returns

By morning, Alexander’s team had already started moving.
Carmen’s main bank accounts were frozen before she even woke up. Three of her investment properties received immediate liens. The Robles Legal Group suddenly had compliance issues with several major clients.
But Carmen wasn’t stupid. She tried to fight back.
She called Sofia’s phone over and over. When Sofia didn’t answer, she started calling me.
I let it ring.
On the fourth call, Alexander answered instead.
“Carmen,” he said calmly. “This is Alexander Bennett. I believe you met my daughter last night.”
There was a long silence on the other end.
Then Carmen’s voice came through, trying to sound confident.
“Alexander. This is a family matter. It has nothing to do with you.”
“Everything that happens to my daughter has something to do with me,” Alexander replied. “And right now, you have two choices. You can return every cent you tried to take from Sofia, sign whatever documents my lawyers send you, and disappear quietly. Or I can destroy every single thing you own. Including your son’s future.”
Carmen laughed, but it sounded forced.
“You can’t touch us. Javier is Sofia’s husband. He has rights.”
Alexander’s voice turned ice cold.
“Not after last night he doesn’t. And if you think I won’t use every connection I have to make sure he never practices law again, then you clearly don’t know who you’re dealing with.”
He ended the call.
I looked at him. “You think she’ll back down?”
Alexander shook his head.
“No. People like Carmen only understand one language. Power. And right now, she still thinks she has some.”

He looked toward the bedroom where Sofia was resting.
“But she’s about to learn she doesn’t.”
