Chapter 9 - The Night Everything Collapsed

Carmen’s final attempt came on the sixth night.
She showed up at the building with two lawyers, demanding to see Sofia. She claimed she wanted to “apologize” and “make things right.”
Security turned her away.
When she refused to leave, Alexander went downstairs.
I watched from the window as he spoke to her. I couldn’t hear what he said, but I saw Carmen’s face change from anger to fear.
Whatever he told her, it worked.
She left without another word.
That same night, the final blow landed.
Every remaining account Carmen and Javier controlled was seized. The Robles Legal Group was forced into receivership. Their house was put up for sale to cover debts. And a criminal investigation into fraud and assault was officially opened.
By morning, Carmen and Javier had nothing left.
Alexander came back upstairs and sat down across from Sofia.
“It’s over,” he said simply. “They can’t hurt you anymore.”
Sofia looked at him for a long time.
Then she stood up, walked over, and hugged him.

Alexander closed his eyes and held his daughter like he was afraid she might disappear.
For the first time since this nightmare began, I saw tears in his eyes.
