Chapter 7 - The First Strike

On the third day, Alexander made his first real move.

He didn’t just freeze Carmen’s accounts.

He had his legal team file a civil lawsuit against her and Javier for assault, emotional distress, and attempted theft. At the same time, he quietly contacted several of the Robles family’s biggest clients and informed them about the criminal investigation that was about to begin.

By afternoon, three major clients had already pulled their business.

Carmen called Alexander’s phone in a panic.

“You’re destroying us!” she screamed.

Alexander’s voice was calm.

“You destroyed yourself the moment you put your hands on my daughter.”

He hung up.

That evening, Sofia sat on the couch with me while Alexander worked at the dining table.

“Mom,” she said quietly. “Do you think Dad is doing too much?”

I looked at my daughter — still bruised, still healing, but stronger than I had ever seen her.

“No,” I said. “I think for the first time in a long time, someone is finally doing enough.”

Sofia nodded slowly.

Then she said something that surprised me.

“I’m glad you called him. I was wrong before. About Dad not helping us.”

I squeezed her hand.

“Sometimes even the people we’ve given up on can still show up when it matters most.”
