3 - The Truth That Shattered the Courtyard

After I left the stage, security took me to a private room. My parents tried to follow but were stopped.

Chloe was already inside, along with two university officials.

“Are you okay?” she asked, hugging me.

“I’m fine,” I said. “I just needed them to stop lying.”

Dr. Ramirez, one of the officials, asked gently, “Mia, do you have proof of what you said?”

I opened the envelope and laid everything out.

Bank statements showing my scholarship going into my father’s account.

Loan applications with my forged signature.

Emails between my parents discussing how to “handle” me if I found out.

Text messages from my mother to my aunt saying I was “unstable” and “lying for attention.”

Dr. Ramirez’s expression grew serious.

“This is extremely serious,” she said. “We’ll need to involve the police and the financial aid office.”

I nodded.

“I’ve been collecting this for over a year,” I said. “I knew they would try to destroy me today. I just didn’t expect my father to slap me in front of everyone.”

Chloe squeezed my hand.

“I recorded everything,” she said quietly. “From the moment he raised his hand.”

I looked at her, surprised.

She smiled sadly. “I’ve seen how they treat you for years, Mia. I was ready.”

For the first time since the slap, I felt something other than anger.

I felt supported.

And that made all the difference.
