Chapter 27 - The New Beginning

Six months after graduation, I stood in front of a new apartment with my name on the lease.
It wasn’t big. It wasn’t fancy. But it was mine.
Chloe helped me move in. As we unpacked boxes, she looked around and smiled.
“This feels like you,” she said.
I looked around at the small living room, the secondhand couch, and the diploma I had hung on the wall.
“Yeah,” I said. “It does.”
That evening, after Chloe left, I sat on the floor of my empty living room and cried.
Not because I was sad.
But because I had finally done it.
I had survived.
I had told the truth.
I had walked away from the people who tried to destroy me.
And I was still standing.
I wiped my tears and stood up.
There was still a long way to go. I still had debt to fix, trust to rebuild, and wounds to heal.
But for the first time in years, I wasn’t doing it while carrying the weight of my parents’ lies.
